Reset Your Preset

Reset Your Preset

During Sunday morning worship service at West Irving Church, Elder Jamaal Mellerson made a profound statement. He strongly proclaimed that we all need to “Reset Our Preset”. He was referring to the spiritual realm, but this also is relevant in a financial sense. Do you need the 4,000 square foot home with a 3 car garage? Do you need to drive a $60,000 vehicle? Do you need to spend $1,000 eating out each month? Do you need to wear $200 tennis shoes? If you “Reset Your Preset”, you will make correct financial decisions to put you on the path to financial freedom.

Many people today believe we are entitled to have the finest things in life. Just because you can afford a $500,000 home doesn’t mean you have to spend that much. Even though you can finance a $60,000 vehicle, it is wise to purchase a $30,000 one instead. We are programmed to try to spend the most money to demonstrate that we have finally “made it”. The problem is…well…we haven’t made it! Many times, those attempting to show everyone what they have are drowning in debt, and those content with who they are and what they have are better off financially.

History has not always been fair, but opportunity is available to accomplish our dreams. Money should be utilized in a manner that will benefit you and the entire community. Every action we take should be thoroughly thought about. For example, if companies do not treat you fairly, I believe you should not do business with them. Look closely at our country and who owns the businesses, and if you disagree with how they treat you or others, do they truly deserve your business?  Use wisdom and spend your hard-earned, precious money wisely.

No matter who you are, you must have a place to live. Why pay others when you can have a home of your own? The decrease in home values has provided an opportunity for many that otherwise were left behind to procure a piece of the American Dream, and in some instances, you will find that a mortgage payment will be close to what is being paid in rent.  By using wisdom, you can still use home ownership to build a solid foundation for you and your family.

There is no excuse not to take advantage of educational opportunities, starting businesses, and ensuring our families are strong. Some may believe that your destiny is cursed due to your parents or even grand-parents’ mistakes, but we all have the power to change the future. Money is powerful!  Instead of giving the precious commodity away to purchase items we don’t need, I challenge you to save your money. Show everyone that we are intelligent, powerful people that will grow our wealth instead of purchasing depreciating assets.

Make up your mind today…Reset Your Preset!
